The last two weeks have flown by. Some of the highlights were a political brunch with the Alberta Liberal Women’s Commission for International Women’s Day, a visit from my Iranian in-laws, hot yoga, a visit to Lost in Layers and meeting the sweet and talented Lindsay Sabean, a long chat with an old friend and a blog post on planning the Persian parts of my wedding.
I am going to set up a schedule/calendar for blogging so that I can plan ahead and hold myself accountable. Regular and interesting posts, including outfit pictures, at least five times a week. It seems like a lot as I look at the words on the screen but content is QUEEN!
To end off the week I am sharing my new makeup must-haves and a few of my new favourite things!
Nars Semi Matte Lipstick in Heat Wave
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer
MAC lipstick in Flat Out Fabulous
Anastasia of Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in Soft Brown
I spotted the Nars lipstick on Instagram and immediately fell in love. I love matte red/orange lipsticks.
The Laura Mercier Foundation Primer was a looooong overdue purchase. I have combination skin and it was always super manageable until I moved to the Land of Dry also know as Alberta. Even if you’re just visiting, as soon you step off the plane, you can feel the dryness in the air. I looked at a lot of primers but decided to go with Laura Mercier because my wedding makeup was all Laura Mercier and it held up exceedingly well all day.
The MAC lipstick was *free* because I have slowly hoarded away my old MAC containers so that I could take part in their recycling program (you can return in-store or by mail). You can find out more about the Back to MAC here! I am obsessed with recycling and it makes my heart hurt to think about the kind of non-biodegradable packaging that goes into landfills each and every day…
Finally, I picked up the Anastasia of Beverly Hills eyebrow powder because I have decided to grow out my bangs (I do bangs/no bangs every year…) and my eyebrows don’t get any attention. I have really light and fine eyebrows so I thought it was time that I make them a priority.
The most to-die-for mix and match skirts and tops at Tristan
Kate Spade Estate Garden Earrings (currently sold out)
My look for a political brunch in honour of International Women’s Day
Lost in Layers kimonos
I spotted these amazing Jacquard skirts and tops at Tristan here in Calgary. They were in the process of setting up the display so I didn’t get to take a picture of the best combo but you can see how on point they are right now. The skirts are forgiving with their fullness and the tops narrow to show off the waist. Plus, Tristan only sells products that are MADE IN CANADA!
The Kate Spade earrings are from the same collection as the earrings I wore at my wedding. These, being much smaller and lighter, are more everyday earrings. I have picked up the matching necklace as well when it went on sale late last year. I can’t wear my wedding dress again (I do have plans for it!) but I can totally wear my wedding jewelry again and again and again.
I spotted Lost in Layers on Instagram and immediately sent the owner and designer Lindsay an email. I met up with and tried on a few of her kimonos and picked out one immediately to take home. She is making me a second one that I can hopefully wear when I visit Iran in May. I have already started thinking about what to pack because I have never visited Iran before and I need to make sure that my wardrobe is kosher. Lindsay is awesome and will be at the Bowness Spring Craft Fair tomorrow if you live in Calgary and want to check her kimonos out for yourself.
The last one is a top up look of what I wore for the political brunch in celebration of International Women’s Day. It was a nice event and the best part was the variety of speakers and their topics. The common thread was that more women need to run for office and more women need to get elected. Period.
By the way, today is the first day of spring which means it is also the Persian New Year. Ali and I are going to visit our favourite Persian restaurant Teaspoon tonight to celebrate. Happy Nowruz and Happy Weekend!
