Ladies love long lashes. Cosmetics companies advertise miracle formulas proclaiming the longest lashes, the thickest lashes, the most gorgeous lashes, all achievable with the newest and most amazing mascara. We all see the commercials featuring models that are wearing the mascara but are also wearing eyeliner and fake eyelashes. Add in some Photoshop and you ask yourself if the look shown is even achievable in real life. One much-hyped mascara is Too Faced’s Better Than Sex. It’s a blogger/YouTube favourite the way that it’s talked about as the BEST THING EVER. But is it? I decided to test it out for myself and tell you all about it so that you can decide for yourself along with sharing my overall makeup look which I wore to learn how to make macarons.
I had used Pure+Simple’s Hydration Serum in the morning which I picked up last week when I was in Toronto. Before putting on any makeup I applied Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer all over to help prep my skin and give my skin an extra moisture boost as I have chronically dry cheeks almost all year but especially in the winter (which has already started in Alberta)…
My current foundation is Dior Nude Air Healthy Glow Serum Foundation with SPF 25 in 010. I started wearing this foundation in the summer in 020 and decided that I liked it enough to buy it for the fall/winter as well. BUT. I’m looking for a more moisturizing foundation to help with my dryness. I concealed under my eyes, the sides of the bridge of my nose (popped blood vessels from wearing glasses) and spots around my chin using Dior Fix It 2-In-1 Prime and Conceal Face, Eyes and Lips in 001. I really, really like that it’s a stick, that it’s multi-purpose and does the job. I’m also wearing MAC’s Bone Beige Sculpt Powder and Butter London’s Naughty Biscuit Cheeky Cream Blush to finish off the look.
Here come the lashes! I applied Better Than Sex to just one eye on both the upper and lower lashes so that you could see the difference. And there IS a difference! I was really happy with the results. I took more time to apply it than I usually do when I slap on mascara and I sat down to do it with a magnifying mirror. I think that sitting down really makes a difference because I was able to look down and really push the lashes up. You can see that the effect is pretty dramatic.
So how did the whole look turn out? Here’s the final result! The only other products I used for this look were MAC Brule Eye Shadow and Smashbox’s Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Sumatra which is AMAZING and I am in major with. It’s the best liner I have ever used and I now can’t live without it. I also used the Diorshow Brow Styler Ultra-Fine Precision Brow Pencil in Universal Dark Brown. I am afraid to be too heavy handed with my brows so I know I could go more intense but I’m always concerned that it will look unnatural. I finished the look with a few spritzes of MAC’s Prep + Prime Fix+ and my favourite Speak Louder lipstick.
So, what do you think? Will you try Better Than Sex for yourself? As for the question I posed in the title of this post, I think the only person who can answer that question is YOU !
