I’ve never been to confession before but I can imagine how mine would go… “Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Last week I was in the mall…” Yep, my sin is shopping. My husband might have some other suggestions but I’m going to leave those ones out!
July is a great shopping month. It’s when stores start clearing out the summer merchandise which means you can get some really great deals because they REALLY want to make room for their new fall lines. That’s right… Fall. I won’t get stuck in that rabbit hole but let me just say that as I sit in Calgary during the second day of severe thunderstorms that I am not ready for summer to be over. I really need to move somewhere that offers warm weather in the fall and winter with the occasionally blustery day when I can wear cozy sweaters. So, like I said, rabbit hole. What closet confessions do I have for last month? Here they are. And trust me. I swear these are all staples! Except for the pineapple tank. That one’s totally a summer 2015 fad.
Aren’t these earrings so gorgeous? I received a small gift last year from Swarovski after our wedding that I knew I would never use. Thankfully the Chinook Centre Swarovski store let me exchange it for these earrings.
A few weeks ago my husband and I took his sister and her fiancé to the half-outlet-half-not-outlet mall CrossIron Mills. My husband and I both walked in saying that the only thing we needed was boxer shorts (for him). We left with the boxer shorts, casual sneakers for him and some comfy clothes from the Gap Factory store and I came home with a pair of Crocs that I bought last summer and wore everyday on our honeymoon in Asia and this super lightweight moto jacket. It’s so easy to throw on with jeans and a tank and I love the colour although it’s slightly more greenish in real life. At 70% off it was a bargain.
The pineapple tank. Yes, I know pineapples on clothing aren’t everyones cup of tea but it is mine this summer. This tank was a major score at $7. It’s great for layering and who knows, maybe pineapples will still be on trend in the summer of 2016. A woman can hope!
So this is where you start seeing double. Your vision is fine. Yes, I bought two of the same Banana Republic sweaters and I have super sound reasoning for doubling up. #1 – The cream sweater was only $18, regularly $95! The green sweater was much more popular so it wasn’t as heavily discounted at $38 but it was still an excellent deal. I have been lusting after the green sweater since it was released in the late spring but didn’t want to spend the money. I pulled the trigger last Friday and have already worn both. It’s such a great layering piece for all year that and I am so happy they finally came home with me.
I also bought this drapey trench. The only catch at the store was that they only had one medium left and it was petite. They had a large, which I tried on, that was longer like in the picture below and definitely more drapey than the medium. I never in a hundred years would have said that I would buy something from the petite section of any store but I did. The fit and length of the medium petite was way better than the large. It’s lightweight enough for summer but I know that I will wear it in our (very brief) fall and winter. I love layers!
Now you probably think that I have a sweater obsession and that I always buy in multiples. You’re right about the obsession. I love sweaters. I really, really do. And perhaps it’s my coming
old age wisdom that I’ve discovered when something is a major deal and that I really love it that it makes sense to scoop up two of whatever it is. When I popped in to the Danier outlet store near my house last week I discovered this sweater. Regular price? $179.00. Sale price? 40.00. Total savings = $139.00. I would have never paid $179 for this sweater but I did pay $40.00. The wool blend is soft, it fits a little bit longer which is lovely AND it has side zippers. The sale is still on sweater but I believe the extra 50% off promotion is over… But I still think this sweater is a great buy. If you are going to get one, size down a full size unless you want to go for the oversize look.
So there you have it. My July closet confession. Stay tuned for my summer makeup post this week! I’m going to share the eyebrow pencil that I’ve decided I can’t live without and my new favourite foundation.
