My Banana Republic & Gap Sale Picks for Men & Women

Style fashion beauty blog Calgary

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned it on the blog before and I 100% know that I’ve said it on Instagram: I love Banana Republic. I love Gap too but Banana Republic has been by store of choice for the last two-ish years for a lot of my wardrobe. Gap is my go-to for jeans though. They do jeans really well. Banana Republic clothes transition so easily from season to season and from office, to home and out. I also get super  when they have a sale. And it just so happens that they are having one of their lovely Friends and Family sales right now which means if you have one of the coupon codes they gave out in stores when you made a purchase in the last week or so received it by email like me (Note to my husband: I did not buy anything last week!) than you can start shopping!

For those not familiar with their Friends and Family sale, they offer 50% off of five pieces in stores and 40% of your entire purchase online and at Banana Republic Outlet stores. Gap (they are are the same company) also sent out an email to their e-subscribers offering 40% off all merchandise. Now you know why I’m excited! And! For the first time on the blog I am sharing my picks for men as well! I received some constructive feedback last week from a male reader who asked, “Can you post something for me?!” Ask and you shall receive.

Double-Breasted Long Vest    Green Silk Banded V-Neck Blouse   Military Parka    Tweed One-Button Coat

Blue Square Jacquard Dress        Sloane Fit Burgundy Pencil Skirt

Sloan-Fit Charcoal Slim Ankle Pant       Dark Wash Denim Legging

Long vests started appearing this summer and I definitely think they will continue as a trend into fall and winter. It’s so easy to stick to neutral colours so that’s why I love adding pops of colour into my wardrobe and the Double-Breasted Long Vest is great. And just because you might see it buttoned up like it is here or in stores (or any those without curves) you can totally wear it open. I personally would never wear it buttoned up just because I prefer the look of it open. I also can’t wait to try on the Military Parka. I love the colour, the fabric and especially the length. Although it is a casual piece and not the best suited to winter in Calgary, I think that it would be awesome with layers and for trips to Vancouver. And I know you’re probably thinking that the colour palette of my picks was cohesive until you saw the pop of blue on the Blue Square Jacquard Dress. I love the colour, the pattern and the angled overlay on the bottom. I think this would be a great piece for the next year no matter the season. Beware the straight pockets at the hip though. This detail won’t suit everybody type and I wish they had made the pockets invisible and on the sides of the dress as opposed to the hip.

BR Monogram Navy Geo Wool Suit Jacket  Modern Shawl-Collar Zip Cardigan

BR Monogram Navy Geo Wool Suit Trouser      Slim-Fit Non-Iron Windowpane Shirt in Purple Daisy

Classic-Fit Non-Iron Bold Plaid Shirt in Davenport Blue     Brown Leather Briefcase

I love shopping for my husband. Disclaimer: I’m going to get a little mushy. He is sooo handsome and looks good in every colour. I sometimes get a little jealous that he can wear colours that I can’t. His style has evolved since we met. I still remember what he wore on our first date: Black khakis, tucked-in golf shirt, black belt, green khaki jacket and black shoes with no laces. Super preppy. I would say that his casual style has become way more casual (shirts don’t need always need to tucked in, gentlemen!) and his office style has transitioned significantly because of the type of work he does now versus when we originally met. I love navy suits. Slim or tailored fits are even more amazing.Black can often be so serious and I think navy strikes the perfect balance. It also looks good on everyone. All of the pieces that I picked here can be worn together depending on if you need to be more formal or if you want a more casual Friday look. Men often look accessories like a good bag so I’ve picked one a super classic Brown Leather Briefcase to round out the look.

Heathered True Straight Pants   Open-Front Dolman-Sleeve Cardigan in Burgundy Heather

Leather Chelsea Boots in TobaccoFitted Boyfriend Polka-Dot Shirt in Indigo

Triblend T-Shirt Dress in True Black    Calf Hair Belt

1969 Resolution True Skinny Jeans in Dark Indigo     Solid Ankle-Strap Ballet Flats

I want all of these pieces! All of picks can be worn together which would make getting dressed really easy. They would also take you from your Monday-Friday office life to the weekend. Well, you should add a low black high heel for the office looks instead of my two shoe picks but that’s a staple you should already have in your closet. If not, you NEED a low black heel. I adore the Open-Front Dolman-Sleeve Cardigan in Burgundy Heather . You are going to see burgundy everywhere this fall. You could wear it over the pants, the jeans AND the dress. By the way, the Calf Hair Belt would look amazing belted over both the cardigan and whatever pieces you layer under it or you could wear it at the waist of the Triblend T-Shirt Dress in True Black. I am a HUGE fan of Gap’s 1969 Resolution True Skinny Jeans. I already a couple pairs and wear them all the time and I love the colour and wash of the 1969 Resolution True Skinny Jeans in Dark Indigo. I am in love with these picks!

Twill Mac Jacket     Hooded Anorak in Black Moss    1969 Straight Fit Jeans (Japanese Selvedge)

My Gap picks for men all work with my Banana Republic picks but definitely bring a more casual feel. Everything except the Twill Mac Jacket would be perfect for casual Friday looks or the weekends. I am a huge sucker for rugby stripes and I love the teal and navy combo in the Rugby Nep Cotton Cashmere Crew Sweater in Navy Stripe. Pair it with the jeans and the Hooded Anorak in Black Moss and (almost) any guy will look polished yet comfy on a weekend or casual night out. So much goodness in one picture!

Happy Shopping!
