The Life & Style Briefing Note

You NEED this Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette in your life. Trust me. I can’t stop using it.

Maybe I’m crazy but I think there are more women that would enjoy this curated what to read/watch/listen to list. It’s designed for women on the go who don’t have the time to leisurely peruse the internet for great articles, videos and music. It’s not that these women don’t want to. It’s that they don’t have time to. So maybe a name change will help! And a call to action: Please share this post with every woman that you know would benefit from a curated list that she can get through in less than half an hour because she still has an actual work briefing note to read, kids that just went to bed or whatever zillionth else thing she has to get done. And if you are reading this at work (everyone needs a sanity break) and someone asks what you’re reading, just tell them it’s a new briefing note. Because it kind of is .

In other news, we are getting ready for a quiet Christmas at the Elder-Chamanara household. My recently launched Tall Poppies PR is building momentum which is so exciting! Lola, the youngest member of our family, went through that time in every girls life when everything becomes upside down. My baby puppy is now a woman. I am extremely reluctant to accept this because she’s still only seven a half months old and all grown up. And you might remember my post about my husband not liking my sweaters? Well, we finally went shopping together and *he* picked out sweaters that he liked (and I liked because I am the one who has to wear them after all) and we actually found some common ground. And I documented it with pictures and videos that I am going to share in a blog post this week! Finally, I am meeting the lovely Sarah Beau Photography this afternoon for new outfit posts. I have been a little slow with the ol’ blogging for the last couple of weeks but am now back in the saddle for the rest of December.

I discovered Grace VanderWall on iTunes last week and haven’t stopped listening to Perfectly Imperfect, her debut EP, ever since. Her songs have a strong point of view and have really resonated with me.

You see a girl in the hallway
And then you whisper to your friend
“Who is she anyway?”
You forgot what she looks like in like a day
But your words don’t hurt me
I will be OK‘Cause you don’t hurt me
I won’t mold toYour silly words
I won’t live inside your world
‘Cause your punches and your names
All your jokes and stupid games
They don’t work
No, they don’t hurt
Watch them just go right through me
Because they mean nothing to meI’m not clayYou see that girl in the hallway
Smile on her face as she walks away
Trying to tear her down was your first mistake
‘Cause little do you know. She wasn’t built to break‘Cause you don’t hurt me
I won’t mold to

Your silly words
I won’t live inside your world
‘Cause your punches and your names,
All your jokes and stupid games
They don’t work
No, they don’t hurt
Watch them just go right through me
Because they mean nothing to me

Try to change my shape
But, baby, I’m not clay
Sorry, not today
‘Cause, baby, I’m not…

Try to change my shape
But, baby, I’m not clay
Sorry, not today
‘Cause, baby, I’m not clay

Your silly words
I won’t live inside your world
‘Cause your punches and your names
All your jokes and stupid games
They don’t work
No, they don’t hurt
Watch them just go right through me
Because they mean nothing to me

I’m not clay

Did you know that the concept of self-care originated in 1976? I didn’t either until I read this New York Times article

We are all spending a lot of time lovingly wrapping Christmas gifts. Check out this video on how to wrap a present like they do in Japan using only two pieces of tape. Only two pieces! The same guy has another video that shows how to wrap without ANY tape or ribbon.

The best-selling red lipsticks of all time. It’s lipstick porn!

Arguments. We do our best to avoid them but they happen. Forbes has an interesting article on how to win an argument. Arm yourselves, ladies!

Daily Hive author Kaila Hoar published an article on the seven best coffee shops in Calgary to actually get work done in. If you live in Calgary and need a place to work, this is for you!

Baby Foot. It’s a Japanese invention that gets rid of all your icky, gross, scratchy dead feet skin. I brought a Baby Foot back from Japan and I haven’t used it yet but my feel really need it. I am going to do a post on the hideous before and the hopefully delightful after!
